Liz Matory has provided voters with clear stances on key issues by responding to the 2020 Political Courage Test.
Pro-life | Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
I used to be pro-choice like a lot of women in my generation, but the more I learned about how the abortion industry co-opted the Women's Movement in the 60s and more life I have lived, I realize that no human is supposed to kill their offspring, particularly not voluntarily. Women were never told the real dangers about abortion: breast cancer (hormonal birth control even), cervical damage, premature births post-abortion. More than any law, society will soon change it's opinion about abortion and more pre-born human lives will be spared. Hyper-sexualization of our culture also plays a part. |
No | Do you support expanding federal funding to support entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare?
No | In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
|
|||
Before any increase in funding, I believe that every government program should be evaluated and revisited in order to ensure that tax payers dollars are spent effectively and efficiently. |
Yes | Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
As a former democratic field organizer, I saw firsthand how much power unions like the Teacher's Union have over elections. I have met countless teachers who did not support the candidates that their leadership forced on them, and individual teachers are left with no recourse as they are forced to campaign for candidates who they themselves do not support. In our region, unions and special interests have more power over campaigns and elections than corporations. |
Unknown Position | Do you support increasing defense spending?
|
|||
As mentioned before, I believe that ever government budget should be audited before receiving an increase in spending. Without honest and open discourse about expenditures, Congress has allowed for us to enter into military entanglements. We have created "endless wars" that no citizen ought to ever support. |
Yes | Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes | Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
Our businesses must be able to compete on the global market. Congressmen in the 1990s/2000s made empty promises that they would protect our steel industry for example, and now cities like Baltimore are devastated by the loss of major industry. We need to "reshore" our industries from metals to medicine (bring back our supply chain) if we ever want to restore our families and communities. |
No | Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
I support School Choice and Home Schooling. I reject any notion that a person's ability to learn is based on their skin color, gender, or zip code. Over the last two decades (maybe more), our education system has become more centralized (and top-down) yet citizens' ability to function even at basic levels of reading and math has decreased (seemingly overnight). Now half of the adult population is virtually illiterate. We cannot ignore this plague any longer. Learning starts at home NOT in DC. |
No | Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
Americans have the 2nd amendment right to keep and bear arms. Apart of documented mental health threats to self or society after due process, gun rights should not be restricted by the federal government. |
No | Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
Obamacare will probably be remembered as the worst example of Pay-To-Play and crony capitalism in American History. Citizens and patients are still left with debilitating debt and inadequate healthcare after the behemoth legislation that only benefitted major corporations and health conglomerates. Pre-existing conditions language is beneficial, but the way that Obamacare is implemented has made healthcare so bad that citizens are now conditioned to want full socialization of the healthcare system. Loss of freedom will result and the feared Death Panels are bound to become reality with "Medicare For All". Perhaps that was the goal all along. |
Yes | Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
Yes | Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
Unless their home country is all out war, illegal entrants should return to their legal domicile and apply for proper immigration status like official immigrants to the United States. |
No | Do you support reducing military intervention in Middle East conflicts?
Unknown Position | Should the United States use military force to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a weapon of mass destruction (for example: nuclear, biological, chemical)?
|
|||
I believe the War Powers Resolution has been abused by the executive branch and has now forced our country to remain at work for close to two decades without the official, constitutional declaration reserved to Congress. My senior year at Columbia University in New York was 9/11 and from then on I vowed to do whatever I could to ensure that we never find ourselves in that position again. That may be the reason why Congress has been such a focal point for me. We need an end to War Profiteering and Devaluing our Military. |
Yes | Do you generally support removing barriers to international trade (for example: tariffs, quotas, etc.)?
|
|||
I support temporary measures to bolster our economy. When we restore our economy by reshoring major industries, we will find a better way of leading the global economy WITHOUT leaving our citizens behind. |
Ending Human Trafficking will be my top priority - Maryland (and Baltimore particularly) has become a major hub for interstate and international trafficking (sex and labor). Our leadership has turned a blind-eye and given only lip service to the problem. We need more conservative congresswomen who will be brave enough to end modern day slavery. Suburban kids are biggest targets. #ReshoreToRestore - This latest epidemic highlights the importance of bringing back critical industries like metals and medicine back to our country. Industrial cities like Baltimore will be restored. Citizens, families and communities will be able to thrive again. |
